There is a photograph currently circulating on the Internet of a mountain lion supposedly dragging a whitetail buck in Kansas.

The "Wichita Eagle" reports the photo is part of a wide-ranging online hoax.

Officials with the Cougar Network and the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks say the photo was taken by a trail camera in Texas. The same picture has been attributed to at least ten other states.

Last week, wildlife officials confirmed the authenticity of a photograph of a live mountain lion in northwest Kansas taken by a deer hunter. That and a report of a mountain lion killed near Medicine Lodge are the only two verified reports of mountain lions in Kansas, despite many undocumented sightings.
