A new study indicates that Saline County has the highest percentage of obese adults in Kansas.

Federal health officials now estimate and report the prevalence of obesity and diabetes in each of the nation's 3,141 counties. The first numbers released reflect data from 2007.

In Kansas, more than 26.8 percent of adults were estimated to be obese in all but three of 105 counties: Douglas, Johnson and Riley. In those counties, the obesity rates were only slightly lower.

The county with the highest percentage of obese adults was Saline County with 32.1 percent.

The lowest percentage county was Johnson, with 22.8 percent.

In 15 Kansas counties, more than 8 percent of adults were estimated to have diabetes.

In Wyandotte County, an estimated 9.4 percent of adults had diabetes, the highest rate in the state. Neighboring Johnson County had the lowest rate with an estimated 6 percent of adults suffering the malady.
