Allen Scheer was booked into the Saline County Jail on a charge of sexual battery.

Allen Scheer was booked into the Saline County Jail on a charge of sexual battery.

A Salina Catholic Priest is arrested in connection with an alleged sex crime.

Police say that 49-year-old Allen Scheer was arrested Wednesday on a Saline County District Court warrant for one count of sexual battery.

In a news release, police say that an investigation revealed that Scheer had inappropriately touched an adult male, "with the intent to arouse or satisfy sexual desires". The alleged offense occurred at the victim's residence in central Salina.

Scheer, who is a pastor at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Salina, was booked into the Saline County Jail on a charge of sexual battery. He was booked into jail at 4:55 in the afternoon, and released at 8:01 in the evening, after posting a $1,000 bond.

Was my thoughts also Iamgonnagetu.I think that law if it passes is going to open up a can of worms.Isn't being a priest/pastor not only a calling but an occupation?Just my thoughts here is all.

I wonder why that pix of mug shot exludes white collar. Was he aware of his arrest process before changing his clothes? I bet Pope Benedict XVI would forgive him. See the online article: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/03/25/world/europe/25vatican.html?pagewanted=all

We are praying for you, Fr. Allen! You are an amazing priest and a great friend and we can't wait for you to get back to the Cathedral.

Maybe the man who is saying this about father Allen is making the whole thing up, if you know the Priest like our family does you would understand why this is so unbelievable. He has been the most helpful man we know and I will support him in any manner our family can. So make sure before you are willing to bash someone you do not know or even know who he is make sure you are innocent yourself.

I figure he is innocent! I mean who has ever heard of a priest commiting a sex crime? I was just amazed that a person even accused of a sex crime could pay one hundred measly dollars to get out of jail.

Teachable moment: Adding LGBT to protected classes has nothing to do with illegal activity PERIOD! For those who think they know it all, the protection is for housing, employment and public accommodations. If the priest did do illegal activity, how does that connect to housing employment and public accommodations? It does not, so learn the facts before spew your vile verbal assaults.

One does not always know the gay side of a person. Now we know the priest is gay and is employed so should an ordinance protect him from being fired because he may do something to the alter boys around him. This is a very fine line. As far as I am concerned this gay has brought more attention to the gay problem in Salina.

I was thinking the same thing Iamgonnagetu!! What's the answer to that question city commissioners!! Well, to morningsun: I suspect the employment for the church would be an issue should they dismiss him because of his sexual preference. As to it being a crime, I know this guy, I doubt seriously this actually happened. Besides, they usually go for little boys!! If this was an actual sex crime, the bond should have been MUCH, MUCH higher!!!

Once again, illegal activity is just that… illegal. If someone is charged with a crime and is a member of any one of the protected classes, that isn’t going to save you from being prosecuted. You did an illegal act and should be punished according to the law. Don’t know how much clearer that can be said.

I hope people will give this priest his due process rights and not presume he is guilty before all of the facts have come out. Each of us, including him, deserves to be presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

First of bail was 100.00 because it is a misdemeanor offense. Next I will just add that lets wait until all the facts come out many will be surprised. All I will say is desparate people do desparate things and I am not referring to the pastor. And last but not least please remember we all are sinners and fall short of the glory of god.

This is to Banger. You are so right. I am ashamed to have judged him at first. There are 3, who know the truth, the accuser, Father Allen and God. As a Christian, I threw stones and I hope God forgives me for passing judgement. Thank you for what you posted. As it is written, "All have sinned and fall short from the Glory of God."

Looking at all the protecters from Scared Heart getting on here. Quite of a black mark against the School I would say. Police just do not arrest someone without probable cause. There are murderers out there that are nice guys that means nothing but what the person does in reality does mean something.

It doesn't matter if he touched a man or a woman. Obviously something had to happen for charges to be filed. Grown men just don't go around accusing priests of touching them.

It was likely the home of a parishioner. I don't know but if it happened and a Catholic was the victim I applaud the guts it took to stand up. I, personally, accuse this priest of nothing. My accusations are against his church affiliation. It is the right of anyone to remain seated - to remain silent - because anything you say can and will be used against you. It is, however, more than clear that what you refuse to say will be held against you unless you repent and atone. The truth is divisive.

People should know Allen Scheer before they make judgement. There is no way this accusation is true. The man who made the accusation should go to the authorities and tell them he made a mistake. I have known Allen and his family before he was a priest. He was a Vo-Ag Instructor and FFA Sponsor when my son was in Highschool. His calling to be a priest was certainly a calling from God. He is not capable of breaking the laws of the church or of God. If he had, he would have surrendered immediately and admitted to doing such and taken the consequences. He is not guilty. The people who are writing bad comments about the situation are people who look for a chance to do so and do not have a God.

It makes me angry to know that Father Scheer was booked into jail for something that was a spoken ill against him without evidence. If this is the case we could all have something against someone and do the same to them. That law needs to be fixed.
