A new state law will make a wine tasting festival in De Soto the first in Kansas that will allow patrons to buy wine at the event.
A new state law will make a wine tasting festival in De Soto the first in Kansas that will allow patrons to buy wine at the event.
Under a bill signed during the recent legislative session, wineries at festivals will be able to sell bottles of wine. Previously, wine drinkers could taste the wine at the festival but had to drive to wineries to buy bottles.
The Lawrence Journal-World reports Winesong at Riverfest on June 16 will be the first wine festival since the law took effect.
Greg Shipe owns a Eudora winery that will be one of 14 at the festival. He says the new law will make it easier on wineries and their customers. He says wineries couldn't make any money at previous tastings.

Great so now vendors can come in and charge $10 a glass for wine. Where is our state attorney general on all the price fixing going on in our state on everything including gasoline? There are laws to protect the citizens but nothing is being done to enforce those laws.

Speaking of booze and festivals, I always wondered why something like the river festival allows people to bring their own beer in as opposed to having a beer garden. The fest would quadruple the money they bring in. A ton of beer is consumed at the fest and it seems that it is a missed opportunity.

They could easily charge $7 a beer and these people would be happy to pay it.

This is what I love to see. Now we can have even more alcoholics destroying the best park in Salina. Do you people even see how much these idiots mess up the park, and on top of that do you know how horrible it is living anywhere near that place when your idiotic festival is going on? People already have a sense of entitlement (more so when they are a bunch of new age yuppies) and now your allowing them to not only park in front of my house, but to also leave their trash everywhere. AND lets give them more alcohol. The only good river festival was the first one. It was centered on family and the community. Now its either people who spend their entire time patting themselves on the back for "knowing" art, or alcoholics that are showing our children exactly how to waste their entire lives in just one weekend. If people were to put this much time and effort into ANY other aspect of Salina then we could have the best city in the midwest rather than the joke of Kansas.

Look I agree with you. The festival here is unlike the one in Wichita. It seems to me they should hold it in a field somewhere far away from people's houses. You do not see those with the money who put this on doing it in their neighborhoods or even close to where they live. My comment was towards how much money people spend on foolishness.
