A crash on Interstate 70 in an Ellsworth County construction zone sends two people to the hospital in Salina.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, two cars were headed east on I-70, entering a construction zone where lanes narrowed from two lanes to one in both directions of travel. One of the cars rear-ended the other.

Two people in the car that was rear-ended were hurt. They are 52-year-old Wendy Duncan-Burkinshaw and 54-year-old Mark Burkinshaw, both from Lake Jackson, Texas. They were transported to Salina Regional Health Center.

The driver of the other car, 39-year-old Layla Berguland from Colorado Springs, Colorado, was not hurt.

Troopers say that everyone in both cars was buckled up.

The crash happened just before 10:00 Monday morning, about a half-mile west of the K-232 I70 Junction on I-70 in Ellsworth County.

There is ALWAYS someone that waits until the last minute to merge, hoping to get that extra car length in front of everyone and then expects everyone to let them in the lane when they have to merge.

People do NOT slow down or obey the speed limits in construction zones. When you slow down (as you are supposed to), you have someone at your bumper the entire time! Out by the Manhattan airport is one of the WORST! I think fines in construction zone should be triple the normal fine. For the majority of people the ONLY way they get the message is if it hits them in the wallet!

People with money can care less. Even with speeding tickets if you are willing to pay more the ticket never shows up on your record. Money Talks.

Sorry ksfarmdude but K232 I70 Junction is a long way from Fort Riley. There's not much traffic out there, and it's a long way in between state colleges at that point.

I think what he's talking about is K18 between exit 303 and Ogden...right between both institutions he mentioned. However it's not all college students & Ft Riley personel...not by a long shot.
