Elko County sheriff's deputies are investigating the death of a 34-year-old Kansas man who collapsed in a canyon in northeast Nevada's Ruby Mountains.

The sheriff's office says Jamon Michael Lewis of Olathe (oh-LAY'-thuh) was reported to be on foot by himself on Wednesday and appeared to be disoriented before authorities found him unconscious in Soldier Creek Canyon.

A helicopter and ambulance were dispatched to the area between Lamoille Canyon and Secret Pass but paramedics were unable to revive him.

Deputies said in a statement Friday they suspect Lewis died of a heat stroke but won't know until an autopsy is completed possibly next week.
