The Kansas Supreme Court has upheld the life sentence for a man convicted in Reno County of sexually abusing a 6-year-old boy.
Aaron Salinas was sentenced to life in prison in 2010 after he pleaded guilty to abusing the boy in September 2008 while he was babysitting the child. Salinas was 18 when the crime occurred. He's serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole for 25 years.
The Hutchinson News reports that in a ruling released Friday, the state Supreme Court said it was upholding the life sentence for Salinas. The court ruled the sentence was justified in part because the victim was a 6-year-old autistic child who had been in Salinas' care at the time of the crime.
