Over 1,700 cars are registered this year

One of the biggest events of its kind in the country is taking over Oakdale Park in Salina. The park looks more like a drive-in from the 1950s, with over 1,700 hot rods and custom cars. It's all part of the Annual KKOA Leadsled Spectacular car show.

This year's show features classic cars, custom cars, and hot rods from all over the country. Some of the biggest names in the industry are here.

Also appearing are Hollywood stars Priscilla Barnes and Paul Petersen.

Barnes is best known for playing the role of Terri Alden, one of the three roommates on "Three's Company", from 1981 through 1984. She has also has appeared in 85 other movies and television shows. Barnes told KSAL News Friday that this is the first time she has ever been in Kansas. She says that she is having a wonderful time at the show. The fun atmosphere and the hospitality of everyone she has met have made it a great event.

Petersen is one of the original "Mousketeers" on "The Mickey Mouse Club" in 1955. He later scored big as Donna Reed's son Jeff Stone on her popular sitcom, "The Donna Reed Show". He told KSAL News Friday that he loves events like these. He is involved with the biggest car show event in the country, a Route 66 show that attracts well over 100,000 people. He says that though it's not as large, the show in Salina compares to the California show.

Show organizer Jerry Titus says that over 1,700 cars are registered this year. Along with the cars, there are booths, concessions, and entertainment throughout the park.

Friday night many of the cars from the show will drag race at the East Crawford Recreation Area. Saturday night there is a concert at the Stiefel Theatre featuring a Buddy Holly Tribute band.

The Leadsled Spectacular will be held at Oakdale Park through Sunday, beginning at 9:00 each day.

This event is what the river festival should be replaced with for the best of our community. This is a class act and Salina is lucky to have it.

You are so right!! This event is far better than our river festival, I enjoy seeing the old cars, takes me back a few years :)It appeals to a wide range of people and age groups.

Would be nice to see numbers for total DAILY attendance, ticket sales, booths, basically everything. From what I have seen the folks are keeping the place clean, everyone is very respectful of others, overall a really nice group of people. Hands down, this event beats the river festival all day long. Great job!
