Lawrence Police Officer Says He'll Sue Over Firing
Associated Press - Wed 09:00 AM 08/01/2012
A former Lawrence police officer says he plans to sue the city over his firing after he was accused of fixing traffic tickets.
Michael Monroe was one of two officers the city alleged fixed traffic tickets in exchange for tickets to University of Kansas
basketball games.
City Manager David Corliss has said the person whose traffic tickets were fixed is in federal prison related to a broader Kansas ticket scandal.
Police Chief Tarik Khatib fired Monroe in March, overruling a city employee grievance board's decision that Monroe should be reinstated with a demotion.
The Lawrence Journal-World reports Corliss recently upheld Khatib's decision.
City officials declined to discuss Monroe's grievance.
The other officer, whose name has not been released, resigned in February.

If he does find an idiot attorney to take his frivolous case then I hope the court makes him pay the city's attorney fees and costs when he loses the case. The city employee grievance board should be removed for tolerating bribery and corruption. This is a great example of the problem with our government -- let corrupt people take paychecks from the taxpayers and keep their jobs because their union cut a fat hog with their stupid politicians in Lawrence who sold their constituents down river. If this happened in the private sector, there would be NO CHANCE for this officer to get his job back. Just anotehr corrupt cop being protected by a union -- unreal.

My people in Lawrence tell me a different story about this whole scandal deal and there were many high ranking people there involved with it that have slipped under the radar. There is alot more to this then is being reported.

Perhaps their chief of police should declare a Jihad against corruption and institute Islamic law over Lawrence.

I find it hard to believe that 2 line officers are behind the whole ticket-fix-for-basketball-tickets scandal, or that this is the first time they traded accepted a bribe. If there are other corrupt cops, and there no doubt are, then they should fired, stripped of their pension, prosecuted for corruption, and ordered to reimburse the taxpayers for the damage. And the employee grievance board should be disband and the union contract changed to accurately reflect the law in all 50 states and at the federal level -- BRIBERY and other forms of CORRUPTION are crimes involving moral turpitude that disqualify everyone else from ever being entrusted with the power of a police officer. RUn the crooks and their union out of town, or, better yet, out of state.
