Hutchinson Plans To Ban Most Fireworks
Associated Press - Wed 10:59 AM 08/08/2012
Ordinance will ban aerial fireworks and other fireworks that shoot sparks more than 6 feet in any direction
After fireworks ignited several grassfires and destroyed a home during the July Fourth holiday, Hutchinson city officials have had enough.
The city council has directed the city staff to prepare an ordinance to ban aerial fireworks and other fireworks that shoot
sparks more than 6 feet in any direction.
Fire Chief Kim Forbes says he is nearly 100 percent sure that fireworks started a fire that did $500,000 damage to a home on July 5. The department also extinguished 33 grass fires on July 4.
Representatives of two fireworks dealers asked the council not to impose the ban but their suggestions were rejected. The city plans to contact the Reno County Commission and South Hutchinson City Council to discuss having identical fireworks ordinance.

Wishful thinking. Randy Duncan wants the fireworks and the two who won the R primary yesterday will do what Randy says. They all think alike.

I think all in all everything went very well for the 4th here in Salina. A lot of younger children, youth and adults alike could enjoy the good old fashioned Fourth with fireworks, family and friends. A great time was had by all and everyone gathered together. It was awsome!!

I guess I failed to see the article that Salina burned to the ground this past 4TH. Fireworks are like a gun, its not the fireworks that start fires it the users. If you ban them to the general public, only the law breakers will be running around the county and shooting them off. As Chief Woody would say " it's better to have them in one area than strung all over" It's sad to see a bunch of NRA members taking stand with the ATF on bans.

you are so wrong. fun was not had by all. if you were a fire fighter yopu would know there where fire before the 4th and fires after the 4th and during the 4th. sometimes 3 at a time. sometimes 5 or 6 a day because of irresponsible dumbasses like you. ban all fireworks. legalize weed

Logical the only thing that the two guys that won yesterday will do is tell Duncan just what he will do. Duncan better get his hat and dark glasses out so he could sell pencils on the corner of iron and Santa Fe. He is the next to go.

The fire departments were running all over. Some people in town could have lost their home. It was so dry in the county that we were very fortunate we did not lose many more homes. Besides Hutch is not banning everything so some will still exist.

So shelster I am glad u had a good time and didnt worry about any problems that was happening...there were plenty of people that had something happen to them and were glad a WEEK later it was finally OVER..I have neighbors that like to upset ME..MY pickup BED was a FUN PLACE for them to throw fireworks into and make louder noises -----BUT when I got into it SEVERAL DAYS LATER ON MY DAY off TO go have the OIL CHANGED ---THE BACK GLASS FELL OUT partly cause of the explosion that shattered the glass but held together until I opened the door...There were red fireworks in the bed of the pickup...MY 4th of July was very costly only because of some kids that wanted to upset me and make VERY LOUD noises and throw over to my house.... the pickup was not in the street... BUT in the driveway ..LOTS of it is not just for fun anymore...... BUT... to HURT others and see how much they can get away with!!!!! I was concerned that some of them may have landed on my roof and caused a BIG FIRE...SO GLAD it is OVER..

Simple, put fireworks to the public vote. Yes the firemen did have to work a couple of days this year, sorry. Simple solution, if you don't like it dig a hole under for a basement under your trailer and watch tv down there. Or you can move to a city that has a ban and no LBGT ordinance. From all the people I saw shooting off fireworks, I think the people have spoken.

Wowza No the people have not spoken. It's people with your warped thinking that cause problems. Someone should not lose a home and its belongings because of some jackass. Commissioners get off your butts and address some issues affecting our community.

Here we go again! Because of the few who cause problems, the rest of us have to be penalized. Banning Fireworks is as UN-AMERICAN AS YOU CAN GET!!. It's only one day out of the whole year to celebrate...come on people...this is craziness! Why don't the elected officials legislate real problems.
