With children heading back to school, motorists are urged to use caution in and around school zones.

According to USD 305, school speed zones became effective Monday.

Be aware of the school zones around schools and the reduced speed limit. Keep in mind that when a school bus stop arm is extended, vehicles traveling in both directions must come to a complete stop. Drivers cannot pass a school bus when the stop arm is extended. Watch for flashing lights on school buses that are used to alert drivers.

With the exception of 7th and 8th graders at the middle schools, and 10th, 11th, and 12th graders at the high schools, students returned to class on Monday. All students will be in class Tuesday.

At USD 305 grade schools, morning kindergarten students attend school 8:30-11:25 and afternoon kindergarten students attend 12:30-3:25. First through fifth grade students regular school hours are 8:30 -3:25 for all elementary schools.

Regular high school hours are 7:35 - 2:35 Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and 8 -2:35 on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Should read officials cannot wait for funds to roll in from school zone violations. Officials should be at the high schools when school gets out they can make money off the kids driving like hell.
