A Kansas City woman accused of keeping her malnourished niece locked in a bedroom is back behind bars after a clerical mistake allowed her to be released earlier than expected.

28-year-old Michele Kraft turned herself in Friday. She and her 34-year-old husband, Jeffrey Kraft, were charged with assault and child endangerment July 20 after a two-week investigation spurred by a hotline tip.

Michele Kraft was able to bond out after her $100,000 bond was accidentally changed to $10,000, meaning she had to come up with $1,000 — or 10 percent — to be freed.

Prosecutors on Wednesday filed a motion to reinstate the original bond because of the clerical error. Jeffrey Kraft also is being held on $100,000 bond.

Both have pleaded not guilty.
