A large group of area businesses gathered Wednesday at Kansas Wesleyan University to meet and greet new students.

KWU Executive Director of Student Development Bridget Weiser tells KSAL News that Wednesday's Meet the Merchants / Hire A Coyote event was a chance for Salina organizations to meet new students.

Fifty-six organizations participated in the event. They included things like churches, banks and financial institutions, restaurants, hair salons, civic organizations, and more. Several departments from the City of Salina were at the event.

According to Weiser, it was a chance for the students to learn what the Salina area has to offer, see things to do off campus, and maybe even find a job. Some of the businesses were looking for prospective employees.

Many of the businesses were offering fee samples, including food and drinks, as well as giving away prizes.

Weiser adds that this is the 4th year for the Meet the Merchants / Hire A Coyote event, and it was the biggest one ever.

Way to go KWU! I hope this university continues to do positive things like this for both the community and their students. KWU has a lot to offer and really is a great school.
