Kansas AG Launches Anti-Gang Initiative
Associated Press - Wed 11:46 AM 08/22/2012
Attorney General Derek Schmidt is launching a new initiative aimed at educating the public about the warning signs of gang activity in Kansas.
During a statewide tour that began Wednesday, Schmidt announced a new web site and partnership with law enforcement to reduce the number of gangs, gang members and criminal activity.
The materials include the warning signs that a youth might be involved with a gang or being recruited by a gang. Those signs include tattoos, bruising, using unusual hand signs or language or a change in behavior.
Schmidt says community awareness and education can help identify if gang activity is occurring and how to contact law enforcement for assistance. The online materials are available in English, Spanish and Vietnamese.

Comments must stay on topic and be respectful. Comments that are personal attacks, make unfounded accusations, or are for the purpose of "trolling" or inciting others will be removed. Offending users will have their profile suspended.

uh oh!! This to me says discrimination all over this story. So Derek is going to tell us just because someone has a tattoo, shows the peace sign, flips somebody off, walks a funny way, speaks a differently, has bruses is all going to be thought of as gang members?

Family and friends know what the warning signs of a person's involvement in gang life. More often than not, families and friends are in complete denial that "little Timmy" is actually involved. Handing out pamphlets is not the answer to a growing gang issue.

the key to this is knowing where your kids are at all times and who they are hanging out with

2gud4u -- when you emulate a thug you will get your wish and be viewed as a thug. Many individuals are beginning to realize this and are going the extra mile to distinguish themselves from the thugs by how they appear and dress. If you don;t want the cops to focus on you then don't dress and act like a typical thug. ksfarmdude is absolutely right, know where your kids are at all times, and teach them right from wrong.
