Andy Martin and Joyce Volk will be at the corner of Santa Fe and Walnut at 5:30pm Thursday - ready to help you smile and LIVE UNITED.

Ready to smile for the camera - and LIVE UNITED?

Andy Martin, Executive Director of the Salina Area United Way and United Way Board Member Joyce Volk stopped into KSAL Thursday with a reason to smile.

Martin urged the community to head downtown after work for a huge group photo.

"We hope it's one of those moments in Salina history that people fifty years from now will look at and say 'wow' how did they do that," he said.

Volk tells KSAL News that everyone counts. "If you're not planning on coming tonight and you think, oh I am just one person - please come," she said. "We can all make a difference together."

The Salina Area United Way's LIVE UNITED downtown photo event will take place Thursday evening.

Community members wearing LIVE UNITED t-shirts will gather at 5:40p.m. in downtown Salina's landmark intersection, Santa Fe Avenue and Walnut Street, for a group photo. Anyone with a LIVE UNITED t-shirt is invited to be in the photo, which will be taken from above.

The LIVE UNITED on Santa Fe photo event is the prelude to City-Wide T-shirt Day which will take place on Friday at local businesses in the Salina area.

LIVE UNITED t-shirts are available by contacting the Salina Area United Way at 827-1312.

The events this week are part of the Salina Area United Way's 2012 Campaign. The goal this year is to raise $1.15 million, or 10 percent more than last year.
