High School Sports: Mustangs Roll Past Cougars

Salina Central cruises to a 6-1 victory over Salina South in boys soccer last night. Damian Cooper leads the way for the Mustangs with a hat track and an assist. Jose Escobedo scored the lone goal for the Cougars. Central is 9-2 and 4-0 in AVCTL Division I while South drops to 4-6-1 and 0-3 in AVCTL Division I.
Salina Central's volleyball team sweeps Chapman and Sacred Heart, winning 25-9, 25-23 against the Irish before downing the Knights 25-18, 27-25. Sacred Heart defeated Chapman 25-18, 25-10.
Salina South's volleyball team went 2-1 in Hays. The Cougars lost to Abilene 19-25, 25-12, 25-15, but won its final two matches over Hays, 26-24, 25-22, and Norton 25-16, 25-20. The Cougars are now 6-20.
In girls golf, Alissa Kim shot a 41 to win the individual title and lead Salina Central to the team title by 19 strokes in Clay Center.
In girls tennis, Gabby Briggs and MacKenzie Morris improved to 24-0 on the season, taking three matches at the Salina Central quad. The Mustangs placed third as a team.
In cross country, Sacred Heart takes both team titles at Beloit. Cory Donley won the boys race in 16 minutes, 10 seconds, 45 seconds ahead of second place. Alex Elmore led the girls with a time of 16 minutes, 15 seconds.
