A bank robbery suspect was caught in rural Saline County after exchanging gunfire with a state trooper late Tuesday night.
Law enforcement and first responders were all at the scene of an incident at Assaria Road and Gypsum Valley Road.
Earlier in the day, a Rice County bank was robbed at gunpoint. The FBI says a man walked into the First Bank of Chase Tuesday morning, showed a weapon and demanded money. He left in a green sports utility vehicle.
Troopers Tuesday evening spotted the suspect vehicle near Assaria in rural Saline County, and a chase ensued.
The suspect crashed near the intersection of Assaria Road and Gypsum Valley Road in rural Saline County. He fled on foot after exchanging gunfire with a state trooper.
Three people were hurt, including a state trooper. Two of the victims were in the vehicle with the suspect, a woman and a child. One was flown from the scene by helicopter. The other was taken to a hospital by ground transportation. Their exact injuries and conditions were not immediately known.
Trooper Ben Gardner told KSAL News at the scene that the state trooper's injury was the result of shattered glass, and not from being shot. He was transported to Salina Regional Health Center with minor injuries.
After being on the run for a couple of hours, the suspect was caught along Hobbs Creek Road about a half-mile south of Gypsum Valley Road.
Kansas State Troopers, KBI Agents, FBI Agents, Saline County Sheriff Deputies, and McPherson County Deputies were all among multiple agencies that responded. The highway patrol also had aircraft searching from the air, including an airplane and a helicopter.
Names of those involved were not available late Tuesday night.

Two perps shot, one loose. Trooper also shot but expected to be OK. We should be thankful that we have men and women who are willing to step into these situations and risk their lives to keep us safe and put the criminals behind bars where they belong. We should be thankful for their families too.

I'm sorry, but where in the world does it say two perps were shot? The FBI says a man walked into the First Bank of Chase Tuesday morning, showed a weapon and demanded money. He left the bank in a green sports utility vehicle. The suspect is a black man in his mid-30s, about 6-feet-5 inches, with dreadlocks. He was wearing a long coat. (This was from an earlier story posted about the bank being robbed. No mention of two or three perps, just the one.)

Oh ok, salinapost.com said that three people were shot. A KHP officer, a woman and an 11 year old (which the 11 year old was shot in the face.) Prayers going out to those that were shot. I am at work and can only read what the current situation is, thank you.

The Salina Post did NOT report that an 11 year old was shot in the face. Someone posting as "geez!!!" on the Salina Post is saying that an 11 year old was shot in the face. Big difference.

According to a real news source, The Journal reports that a troopers face was cut when glass from his patrol car shattered when the suspect shot at him. That is a from the Highway Patrol spokesman.

Salina Post reported: 30-year-old was shot in the leg. 11-year-old believed to have been shot in the face. Not consistent with dispatch.

Once again victory is on here full of misinformation just to stir the pot. Nothing like he says ever came across the scanner and he was not at the scene. He is just a rumor monger. Hopefully the truth will be published in the up coming days.

Ok Todd P. I filed a complaint against this person and here is another example of him trying to bully me. I am darned tired of it and you need to get rid of victory22. My statement was a general statement which you can see not aimed at anyone in particular.

I appreciate knowing that I can get on KSAL and get reliable information. I think too many times people don't care about reliability. They just want ANY information at all, so they can start spewing off comments. Thank you again KSAL for not stooping to that standard!

staff, that is a really workable standard. Banter is acceptable "until it crosses the line." THe problem is your line keeps changing and is never consistent. You also let racist comments fly on a regular basis. I have read people referred to as beaners, for example, and you let that pass. Sorry, but your standard is joke.
