9-year-old Nelson Gutsch plays Jeremy Jacob in the upcoming play "How I Became A Prirate" Jordan Martens is directing the program at Salina's Community Theatre.

The stage at Salina Community Theatre will be filled with young buccaneers - as a cast of 12 area students hoist the Jolly Roger and present the musical, "How I Became a Pirate" on October 20th at 2pm.

SCT Education Director Jordan Martens and cast member, Nelson Gutsch stopped into the KSAL Morning News Wednesday with a look behind the curtain.

Gutsch, a 4th grader at Coronado Elementary School, tells KSAL News that the action picks up as soon as the lights go down, "I play Jeremy Jacob, who meets a band of pirates while he's out digging in the sand. We sail away, hit a storm and even end up in my backyard to bury treasure," he said.

According to Martens, working with students through the Theatre's education program has been an experience to treasure, "These kids have such great energy and talent," she said.

"I just encourage them here and there - and point the way."

Tickets for "How I Became a Pirate" are on sale now at the SCT box office.
