A 38-year-old Kansas man faces federal sex crime charges stemming from computer activity while he was held in a state program for sexual predators.

A federal grand jury in Wichita has indicted Mark D. Brull with one count of attempting to entice a 14-year-old child to engage in sexually explicit conduct to produce child pornography and one count of receiving and distributing child porn.

Brull was in the Kansas Sexual Predator Treatment Program at Larned State Hospital when he allegedly communicated with the child and received the pornography over the Internet. Brull was involuntarily committed to the state hospital in 1999 under the Kansas Sexually Violent Predator Act.

Online court records don't list a lawyer for Brull.

This should not occur in a state treatment center.

It is appropriate for people being held in jails, prisons and state hospitals to use computers. He never left the facility.

They did catch him and hopefully will do better monitoring of their computers in the future or get rid of them all together.
