Meetings To Discuss Postal Hours
Associated Press - Mon 07:46 AM 10/15/2012
The postal service plans to reduce hours at more than 360 Kansas post offices, 53 of which are in northwest Kansas.
Meetings are planned for Tuesday to discuss the U.S. Postal Service's plan to reduce hours at northwest Kansas postal offices. The meetings will be held Tuesday afternoon in Healy and later that day in Gove.
The postal service wants to reduce service at Gove from eight hours to four. Gove, with 65 residents, is the smallest county seat in Kansas.
Residents plan to attend the meeting, but many believe the decision is already made and reducing the hours is better than closing the post office.

Community meetings are scheduled in Dorrance and Sylvan Grove Oct. 31 to discuss the reductions.

Less hours less business especially in the more populated area's. Less business less revenue so this really does nothing to solve the problem. The post office keeps raising rates pricing themselves out of business against competitors. They need to look at the real problem of what they are doing with retirement funds and the unions. They should be getting rid of all their older post masters who do nothing but bring down big wages just like the Salina postmaster does. I think about this everytime I stand in line waiting to mail or purchase stamps with 2 clerks trying to do it all. Never have I seen the postmaster do anything especially rolling up his sleeves and helping out.

Probably the smaller post offices need to cut back but usually all they have employed are the postmaster an a assistant. But the post office is needed in these small towns and less hours still at least keeps them going. But the larger post offices closing early is not a good idea. You cannot make money with your doors closed. It seems to me the spin by the postal service has been put on everything but what should be identified for the lose of revenue. The numerous internet sites that have companies and private individuals shipping more boxes than ever should have been a shot in the arm for the postal service. But they have not stayed competitive in costs to ship items and they have not taken the steps to insure safe delivery of items due to the way they handle the freight they receive.

I agree the service is poor at the local post office but a little better since they are not doing passports. They even took out the postage machines in the lobby that kept numerous people from having to use the clerks to buy postage. May seem like a little thing but if it kept 10 people out of line that just needed a stamp or two it made things go faster.

I'd like to be on the cleaning crew at the post office. I am told they make an insane amount of money. Stupid amount of money. Absolutely scary amount of money. Need a body guard on payday amount of money. Comments from anyone who has better information than I do are very welcome.

OK so I think its the time of day that they need to think about...I know a bunch of people dont like to work evenings but THEY WOULD get more business that way...like till 8pm..BUT they wouldnt hear of it--especially the postmaster..Cant go anywhere or do anything then...everything revolves around doing events in the evening...so I dont do anything..

Well the local postmaster has a lack of words when you confront him on the time to deliver a package when it takes 20 or more days. He also does not have much to say when you complain about damage to items shipped. The postal service probably gives classes on how not to broach those subjects. One other thing I would like to know is what right does the counter person have to berate any postal patron? I was standing in line when one of these guys did this and was astonished.
