Teen Hurt in Rollover Crash
Jeff Garretson - Fri 11:44 AM 11/02/2012
A Culver, Kansas teen is treated at the hospital after a rollover accident.
According to Saline County Sheriff Glen Kochanowski, 17-year-old Chad Mattison of Culver, was driving northbound on Holmes Road at about 11am on Thursday when he lost control of the vehicle on the gravel road and rolled once in the ditch.
Deputies say an unknown passerby helped him out of the badly damaged 2007 Mazda, but left the scene before EMS arrived.
Mattison was treated at Salina Regional Health Center for neck pain, and a cut on his left forearm.
The accident happened about .2 miles south of E. Crawford on Holmes Road at 11am.

These guys think these dirt roads are race tracks. The county took down the speed limit signs on these roads close to town for what reason I do not know. The sheriff could make his income back if he would put his ticket writers out there on these roads like Holmes, East North st ect

Look, i read your comments all the time and keep mine to myself but not this time..... You need to realize that he is someones son, BROTHER, and friend. He is my brother & no matter the situation I LOVE HIM AND I AM VERY THANKFUL HE IS NOT SERIOUSLY INJURED!!!!!!!!!! You always have an answer for everything don't you? If we were to look in to your personal history would it be squeaky clean???!!! Probably not but guess what? I wouldn't judge you on it either because my mom and dad raised us better than that. Yes, everyone is entitled to their opinions, but how about for 1 time you try to put yourself in someone elses shoes. He is a wonderful person & I'm very proud to have him as my brother!

The kid was evidently speeding or texting or whatever. I drive dirt roads all the time and know you have to pay attention and not speed, text or talk on the phone. The people who maintain these roads do a bad job and usually leave a mound of dirt on one side or the other of the road and if you get into that even doing 35 mph you have problems. Another thing I drive to work down East North street road everyday and there are no speed limit signs. Further I have seen contruction company trucks doing over 60 miles an hour on that road when they could go out to country club road which is paved and speed a hell of alot safer. But they all know the sheriff's cars and trucks try to stay on the paved roads so they can get it on going down the dirt roads.

frustrating this accident did not just happen he was the driver and as the one person said he could have been speeding texting on the phone who knows what but him. Evidently your brother was just not driving down the road doing the speed limit then all of a sudden flips his car it just does not happen that way. Before you get on my butt why don't you find out the truth of what actually happened.

Like i said, you are entitled to your opinions. All i am saying is that myself & my entire family are grateful that he is ok and that no one else was involved. I never once said that "It just happened" Whatever the situation was my family knows what happened. All that matters is that no one was seriously injured. I'm not trying to start a fight but i will stand up for the people I love. I'm pretty certain my brother is most likely shaken up about this and this is an eye-opener about driving on dirt, sand and or gravel roads.

If you've driven the roads in this area you know that the washboards out here are ridiculous. I honestly did not know that a motor grader operator could do work this bad until I moved to Saline County.

Everyone is prone to mistakes and misjudgement, thankfully this young man was not seriously injured or killed. Hopefully he learns to adapt to road conditions next time.

I am not aware of such people, but I do pose this question to you: When it comes to your opinion, what do a constipated man and myself have in common?

Glad the young man is OK. What some of the people posting here don't realize is that people make mistakes. He is young, probably hasn't been driving that long. Who knows, he may have been driving too fast, texting, whatever. Main thing is--HE WAS NOT BADLY HURT OR KILLED. I bet whatever caused the accident, he will learn from it.

The point is his mistake could have killed some innocent person so he is not only lucky he did not kill himself but lucky he did not kill someone else. There is no mistake when you drive a motor vehicle with a lack of responsibility. His family jumps at the chance to get on here to protect him maybe they should teach him the dangers when his actions can cause a crash of this magnitude. VOTE YES ON TUESDAY ON THE ORDIANCE

Aurora-I have stated i am grateful nothing happened to him or anyone else. I don't think we are making excuses for anything. He has been taught the rules and dangers of driving and the different types or roads or weather conditions. Since some people have a hard time reading i will write it again it again.....WE ARE GRATEFUL NOBODY WAS SERIOUSLY HURT OR INJURED!!!!!!! You're right, I will jump at the chance to defend my family because i love them no matter what, however, what ever the circumstances were (which the family knows and thats all that matters) does not mean you need to assume that he is not being taught right from wrong. I'm sure you know kids will be kids no matter what. I'm not trying to be nasty with anyone but i just really hate to see people making judgement and accusations when they don't know the whole situation. I stated earlier i'm certain he will learn from this and hopefully so do others so they wont be involved in the same thing.

excuse me if you know what happened then do not keep it a secret unless you know that your insurance company won't honor a claim because this kid did something really wrong. You can be rude to everyone but it only shows you are covering something up rather than protecting your family

Aurora. I'm not being rude to anyone. I'm not covering anything up either. I did not realize that you were my mother or father. (Now i'm being cocky to you) Anyways, I'm sorry if you are upset that you don't know everything that is going on in everyone elses life and apparently it bothers you. Like the majority of people have said, i'm very thankful no one was seriously hurt or killed, and i'm sure my brother has enough to think about and has learned a valuable lesson on driving on dirt, gravel and or sandy roads. You can say or think whatever and be all mad about not being involved in our family affairs, the only thing that matters is hopefully my brother has learned from this and so will others. Thank you all and i hope each of you have a great week. :)
