Salina Salvation Army Kettle Campaign Begins

Bell Ringers and red kettles are set up this year at multiple locations throughout Salina. Volunteers will be collecting donations through December 24th.
A sure sign of the holiday season are those bell ringers in front of red kettles at area businesses. The 2012 Salina Salvation Army's Kettle Campaign begins today.
Roxanne Matous from the Salina Salvation Army tells KSAL News that this year there are kettles set up at 21 locations, collecting donations through December 24th.
The Kettle Campaign is the organization's single largest fund raiser of the year. The goal this year is to collect $120,000. Matous says that there are more local families in need this year.
Volunteer bell ringers are still needed. Anyone willing to help is asked to contact the Salina Salvation Army at 785-823-2251.
Salina Media Group volunteers will be ringing the bell at Walmart in Salina all day on Friday, November 30th.

I went to Dillions today and could not believe there was a bell ringer out. Seems the Salavation Army is starting this to early. They need to scale back til after Thanksgiving. Many of us are uncomfortable giving money to volunteers looking like they just woke up from under some bridge. I believe the salvation army needs to go back to having their own people Maning kettles dressed in official uniforms. The people they have walk off and leave the kettles sitting out in the open with money in the kettles for anyone to steal. Have seen that the last 3 years. TIME to clean up you act Salvation Army.

I have to agree with iamgonna its to early and the Salavation Army just does not do it for me anymore. As a kid growing up they had their people dressed in their uniforms ringing the bells. They started after thanksgiving when the holiday season started. I had to go get the manager of a store last year because the kettle was sitting outside with no one around it and money hanging out of it. I even called down to salavation army and they seemed to care less. With money hard to come by this year and prises rising I believe I will donate to someone else.

REALLY??? Complaining about when the Salvation Army starts up? You two old geezers need to get a life!! If you dont like them there so soon just walk on by and shut your trap. Do you realize how many people the SA helps out in a years time? And if all you want to do is complain about petty things then stay at home and order pizza for goodness sakes. Its more than just a Couple of us that feel this way. I am not an old person and will whip your butt if you want to meet me some place. The fact is their program has gone down hill and is not the same as years ago. Evidently you are a dead beat who has his hand out for freebee 's since you refuse to work like the rest of us.

There are 1000's of people that find the way Salavation Army runs its program upsetting. A once proud organization is no longer. One question do they not have to have a permit to do this and have it posted by each kettle? What would stop someone else setting up a kettle and collecting money?

Folks like Iamgonnaget you are just negative. They would have complained that Thomas Edison was hurting the candle industry. If he isn't old today, just imagine how grumpy he will be when he is. I wonder if he can list positive things about his life and if he can list ten positive things about living in Salina. If not, then he should move on to the place where really negative people hang on the Internet (www.salinapost.com) or move.

I know from Past Experience that Walmart DOES Have a list of who is to be there when and I have been told that one time there was ONE that tried to sit and pretend to be from a church and managers checked on it and found out they werent on the list >>>>>and so were TOLD to LEAVE within a half hr of being there...BUT for donations, I give directly to the business itself IF I want to give and then tell the kettle people ones I did so..and walk on by...THERE are soooooo many of them everywhere...you cant give to each one...

Yes I agree with there being so many of them and I also agree that people should give straight to the charity. There are other ways they could raise money since they no longer have the people from their organization to ring the bells. I wonder just how many real salavation army people there are in Salina?

If I am the same person that KSAL kicked out of here, why can't they kick me out already? All they have to is look at IP address and see if it is from same computer or same address and then they can kick me out. Why didn't you realize that I have completely different personality than other different I.D. unless I am a pro at mimicking someone else?
