The spirit of the "The Bard of Avon" is alive and well in Salina this week.
Thespians from the American Shakespeare Center's celebrated Blackfriar's Playhouse in Staunton, Virginia, are participating in a community wide residency. The company is known for its expertise, youthful approach and stripped-down technique of presenting Shakespeare's Theatre of Imagination.
The week holds a broad range of activities, including over 90 hours in local high school English and drama classrooms, master classes, and individual workshops for teachers and actors. Along with the high school presentations, the thespians will also host evening classes at the the Salina Community Theatre, and a Tuesday event at Kansas Wesleyan University.
This is the first time that the national group of actors has worked in a classroom in Kansas.
This residency will be followed by a public performance of "Twelfth Night" on February 18, 2013.
This residency is supported by grants from the Greater Salina Community Foundation and from the Target Foundation.
