Kansas National Guard Soldiers are supporting Southeast of Saline Elementary School students Thursday in a Reading is Fundamental event.
According to the National Guard, soldiers from Company B, 1st Battalion, 108th Aviation Regiment will help approximately 400 kindergarten through 6th grade students create thank you greeting cards to send overseas to U.S. Soldiers through the Thanks a Million campaign. After creating their cards, students will each receive a free book.
The event is sponsored by Southeast of Saline Parent’s Club.
“Parent's Club is very excited to have local National Guardsmen join us for our first Reading is Fundamental event of the school year,” said Sarah Hawbaker, president of SES Parent’s Club. “Their presence will help the students make the connection between the cards they create and who will be receiving them.”
“Soldiers need to know that they are receiving support from back home,” said Chief Warrant Officer 2 Matthew Ingmire, training officer of Company B, 1st battalion, 108th Aviation Regiment and Company C, 2nd Battalion, 211th General Aviation Support Battalion. “The thank you cards received from the Southeast of Saline students will help keep our Soldiers in the right mindset to stay focused on their missions.”
