Two Topeka liquor store clerks are sentenced to six months in jail for providing alcohol to a minor before a car crash that claimed the life of a teenage girl.
30-year-old Paul Stephen Smith II and 28-year-old Moses Jesse Jackson pleaded no contest Friday to the misdemeanor charges.
The two were accused of selling alcohol in March to 19-year-old Hunter Hillmer, whose Cadillac later went off the side of a Topeka street, became airborne, sheared off a utility pole and wrapped around a tree.
The crash killed 15-year-old passenger Madison Naill, Hillmer was paralyzed and a second passenger, 20-year-old Blake Hanvy, also suffered serious injuries.
Hillmer was convicted Dec. 11 of reckless second-degree murder and aggravated battery. He is to be sentenced next month.
