Salina South Takes Two from Campus

Salina South picked up a pair of road league wins at Campus on Tuesday night.
In the girls game, the Cougars claimed a 45-29 win.
The two sides traded baskets in the first quarter, with South staking out to an 11-5 lead.
The Colts pulled within two to start the second quarter before a timeout helped turn the game for South. The Cougars outscored the Colts 13-2 over the final 6:54 of the second quarter, capping the run on a three by Emilee Holloway to lead 24-11 at halftime.
The Cougars scored the first five of the third quarter and extended their lead to 33-15 at the end of three.
Megan Holloway scored 15 points, while Emilee Holloway added 14 points.
The Cougars are now 5-3 and 3-2 in AVCTL Division I. The Cougars are at Hutchinson on Friday.
The boys game was tight at the end, but South found a way to take a 68-66 win.
The two sides traded baskets in the first quarter, and the Colts led 15-13 after the first quarter.
Campus scored the first five points of the second quarter to claim a 22-15 lead, and led 34-26 at halftime.
South would trail by as much as 13 in the second half before turning the game around late in the third quarter, closing within nine at 54-45 at the end of three.
The Cougars took their momentum into the fourth quarter, scoring the first seven points to pull within two. It was part of a 14-2 Cougar run to get in front for good.
Free throws played a big role in deciding the game. The Cougars hit 26-of-34 free throws, while Campus connected on just 16-of-31 foul shots.
Justin Stonebraker leads Salina South with a career-high 21 points, while Conner Ryan adds 18.
The Cougars snap a four-game skid and are now 2-6 and 2-3 in AVCTL Division I. South meets Hutchinson on Friday.
