Buffaloes Sweep Knights

The Sacred Heart Knights went on the road to Belleville Tuesday night and were swept by Republic County.
The Lady Buffaloes scored the first 19 points of the girls game and went on for a 53-13 win.
Already leading 8-0 after the first quarter, Republic County held Sacred Heart scoreless until Tracie Thibault made a three-point basket with just over a minute left until halftime. The Lady Knights trailed 24-3 after two quarters.
Republic County contiuned their dominance, leading 42-18 after the third quarter and going on for a 40-point win. The Lady Buffaloes improve to 9-0 and 5-0 in the NCAA league. Sacred Heart is now 4-4 and 0-4. Thibault and Cara Donley led the Lady Knights with four points each.
In the boys game, Sacred Heart didn't take its first lead until the end of the third quarter, but Republic County came back and held on for a 59-53 overtime win.
Republic County led 4-0 early in the game, but Sacred Heart came back to tie the score at 4-4, then 6-6. After a 6-0 run, the Buffaloes led 12-6, then 17-11 after the opening quarter. After trailing by as many as seven points in the second quarter, the Knights got within a single possession at 24-21, but Republic County countered with four points to end the first half with another seven point lead 28-21.
Early in the third quarter, Republic County took its biggest lead of 35-24. Sacred Heart came back with an 11-0 run to tie the game at 35-35. Two free throws gave the Buffaloes a 37-35 lead, but a long Brooks Brown three-pointer at the buzzer gave Sacred Heart its first lead at 38-37 heading the final quarter.
The Knights led throughout the fourth quarter, and by as many as five points, but found themselves ahead by just three points late in regulation. A Trenton Kuhlman three-pointer tied the game with less then five seconds remaining to send the game to overtime.
In the extra session, Republic County scored the first five points and Sacred Heart the next two. The three point margin was as close as the Knights could get as the Buffaloes went on for the NCAA league win. The Buffaloes are now 7-2 and 4-1 in the NCAA league. The Knights fall to 5-3 and 3-1. Tate Richards scored 19 points to lead Sacred Heart.
The Knights return home and will face Ellsworth Friday night.
