The Salina USD 305 Board of Education approved an alternative school plan in the fall of 2012. The tentative start date for the program is August 2013.
Salina Public Schools proudly announces the selection of James Burkhart as the Alternative Education School Principal effective March 1, 2013.
Burkhart has spent the past 8 years as principal of an alternative high school in Goddard, where his responsibilities included oversight of the construction of the alternative education school building and development of its curriculum. “We are fortunate to bring someone of Mr. Burkhart’s caliber to USD 305, a building leader who has extensive experience specifically with alternative education,” said William D. Hall, superintendent. “Hiring Mr. Burkhart is the first step in the development of an alternative school for USD 305. It will provide one more way to meet the educational needs of high school students now and in the future.”
Burkhart earned his bachelor’s in special education from Emporia State University and a master’s in educational administration from Kansas State University. He has 22 years of experience as a school principal.

I can see more taxpayer money flying out the window. Evidently the teachers they have hired are not doing the teaching job they should be doing or there would be no need for another school like this.

Ahh the school board is trying not to retire that bond that is up for retirement and they are looking for any excuse or reason to keep it going. They did not hire this guy because he is a mircle man with students they hired him so they can build another school and waste more of our money. The Salina school system needs to be cut back they are to large for no more than the students are benefiting from being educated here. The whole local system has become one of greed which is very sad.

It was pointed out to me yesterday at coffee that if the bond is retired will they build a new school? Probably not they would have to use existing facilities which is what they should be doing. Also we need to elect 3 people who care about our children and the community to the school board in the upcoming election. Not greedy people who care less about anyone like the three leaving.
