Lady Cougars /Mustangs Advance to SIT Championship Game

Salina Central and Salina South will play for the girls championship Saturday night at 5:30.

Salina Central and Salina South will play for the girls championship Saturday night at 5:30.

The girl's championship game of the Salina Invitational Basketball Tournament will be an all-Salina affair. Salina Central and Salina South both won Wednesday evening, and will play for the title.

Salina South never trailed against Abilene and advance to the girls SIT championship game with a 63-48 win.

After an early 2-2 tie, the Lady Cougars went on a 10-0 run and never looked back. Sallina South built a 23-10 after the first quarter and led 31-21 at halftime.

Megan Holloway scored 19 points to lead all scorers. Emily Webb added 12 and Emilee Holloway scored 11 points for the Cougars. Belle Barbieri and Gracie Sexton each scored 16 points for Abilene.

In a matchup of two state-ranked 5A teams, Salina Central led Andover most of the way and held on in the end for a 44 - 37 victory. These same two teams played for the SIT title lasy year, with Salina Central coming out on top.

Shaelyn Martin and Hailey Mayfield led the way for the Lady Mustangs, both offensively and defensively. The duo kept Andover's key player Jaylyn Agnew in check.

The Lady Mustangs were hot at the free-throw line, and maintained a second-half lead by hitting some key shots.

Salina Central and Salina South will play for the girls championship Saturday night at 5:30. Abilene will play Andover for third place at 6:30 Friday night.
