Trojans Bounce Back with Win over Ness City

Southeast of Saline’s girls basketball team went 1-2 and finished third at the Hilltop Hoops Classic at Barton County Community College.

The Trojans won last night’s game over Ness City 66-59. It was the first win in five tries for Southeast, playing three state-ranked teams in that stretch.

Southeast led 20-12 after one, but had the lead cut to three at halftime at 29-26. Ness City continued to draw closer, pulling within two at 43-41 heading to the fourth quarter.

The two would play even, with Ness City trailing by two with 2:51 to go, when Southeast scored five straight points, then hit free throws late to seal the win.

Freshman Erica Montgomery led Southeast with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Calli Calahan had 17 points, while Linzy Kaniper and Delani White each chipped in 14 points.

The Trojans are 7-6 and face Sacred Heart on Tuesday.
