Mustangs Split with Andover

Salina Central split Friday night’s games with Andover, with the girls winning 48-31 and the boys falling 61-32.
In the girls game, the Mustangs grabbed their second win over the Trojans in less than 10 days thanks to four three-point baskets from junior Emily Wood. Wood finished with 14 points, while fellow junior Shaelyn Martin added 13 points and 7 rebounds.
Defense was a key for the Mustangs. Salina Central has now limited the 10-3 Trojans to their two lowest point totals of the season. Andover hit just 24 percent of its shots, and missed all 18 of their attempts from behind the three-point arc.
The Mustangs started to pull away in the second quarter, finishing the first half on a 10-3 run to take a 25-18 lead at the break.
The Mustangs blew the game open in the third, outscoring Andover 18-6, and led by as much as 20.
Salina Central is now 9-4 on the season. The Mustangs are off until Friday when they meet Newton.
In the boys game, Andover scored the first 14 points and never looked back in a 61-32 win.
Andover led 19-4 after a quarter and 32-17 at halftime.
The Trojans were able to push the lead to 43-23 after three and continued to increase the lead down the stretch as Central scored just 15 points in the second half.
The Mustangs were limited to their lowest point output of the season and shot just 25 percent from the floor.
Andover used a press to force 18 turnovers from the Mustangs. Salina Central hit just nine shots on the night.
Treyton Hines led Central with nine points.
The Mustangs dropped to 8-5 on the season. They are off until Friday when they host Newton.
