The Knights and Trojans split a doubleheader for the second time this season as the SES girls and Sacred Heart boys got wins at Gypsum Tuesday night.

In a game with seven lead changes and six ties, the girls went back-and-forth until Southeast of Saline pulled away for a 44-40 win.

The Sacred Heart girls held SES scoreless until the 4:47 mark of the opening quarter. Each team had an early lead and the score was tied 8-8 after the first quarter.

The see-saw battle continued with the teams exchanging the lead until the Knights took a 17-15 lead on a Tracie Thibault three-pointer. The Lady Knights built their biggest lead of the first half at 21-15 and held on for a 21-19 lead at halftime.

Sacred Heart scored the first six points of the second half to take their biggest lead of the game at 27-19, but that was immediately followed by a 7-0 SES tun to close the gap to one point. After three quarters, Sacred Heart clung to 29-28 advantage.

The Lady Trojans tied the game 31-31 and took their first lead of the second half at 34-33. The Knights took one last lead at 35-34 and the game was tied for a final time at 35-35. SES took the lead for good, leading by as many as five points late in the game, and holding on for a four-point win.

Sacred Heart falls to 6-8 and 1-6 in the NCAA.

The boys game also went back-and-forth in the first half, but Sacred Heart held SES to just 11 second half points on their way to a 62-43 win.

After a Dalton Dooley three-point play to open the game for the Knights, the Trojans went on an 8-0 run to take what would prove to be their biggest lead of the game. In a high-scoring opening period, Sacred Heart came back and lead 22-17.

Southeast of Saline took what would be their final lead midway through the second quarter 26-25. At halftime, the Knights led 38-32.

Sacred Heart led by as many as 16 points in the third quarter and took a 52-38 lead into the final period of the game.

After being held to just six third quarter points, the Trojans could muster only five more in the fourth quarter as the Knights went on for a 19-point win.

The Knights improve to 9-6 and 5-2 in the NCAA. Sacred Heart will be at Minneapolis on Friday.
