Ell-Saline, Bennington Split Area Game of the Week

The Ell-Saline girls completed their sweep of the week with last night’s 38-26 win over Bennington. It wasn’t easy for the Cardinals, as they trailed 15-3 early in the second quarter. The Cardinals blanked the Bulldogs for the rest of the half, and tallied nine straight to make it 15-12 at halftime. In the third quarter, the Cardinals took the lead on a 10-0 run and outscored Bennington 10-3 in the quarter to take a 22-18 lead to the fourth quarter. In the final frame, the Cardinal lead was two with 3:46 to go, when another 10-0 run allowed Ell-Saline to pull away.

Darriane Wikoff scored 16 points to lead Ell-Saline. The Cardinals are 11-3 overall. The Cardinals host Marion and Remington this week.

The Ell-Saline boys pushed undefeated and third-ranked Bennington, but the Bulldogs remained unbeaten with the 43-32 win.

Bennington built a 6-3 lead after one and led 26-21 at halftime.

The Cardinals closed within two in the third, but it’s as close as they would get. Bennington built an eight point lead at 34-26, and then hit free throws in the final two minutes to pull away for the win.

Luke Base led Ell-Saline with 11 points.

The Cardinals are 6-8 overall and take on Marion and Remington this week.
