Sacred Heart Splits With Russell

In just their fourth home games of the season, Sacred Heart split a doubleheader against Russell Tuesday night.
The Lady Broncos trailed for much of the early game, but came back and held on for a 40-37 win.
Tracie Thibault scored eight of her 13 points for the Lady Knights in the opening quarter. Other than a 6-6 tie and a 9-8 Russell lead, Sacred Heart didnt trail in the first quarter.
The Lady Knights led 11-9 going into the second quarter and continued what would ultimately be a 10-0 run and their biggest advantage at 18-9. Russell went over six minutes without a point in the quarter, but a quick 7-0 run to end the half made the score 18-16.
Other than three ties, Sacred heart also led the entire third quarter. With the score knotted at 26 going into the final quarter, Sacred Heart quickly took a five-point lead. That was countered by a Russell 10-0 run to make the score 36-31. The Lady Knights trailed by five points twice and got within 38-37 late in regulation, but a pair of Madison Beagley free throws and a late turnover allowed the Lady Broncos to escape with the three-point win.
Sacred Heart falls to 6-10 overall and 1-8 in the NCAA. Cara Donley led the Knights with 16 points.
The boys teams started a little sloppy and sluggish, but it didn't take long for the Knights to roll to a 60-23 win.
Russell took an early lead with a couple of free throws, but would be held without a field goal or another point in the first quarter. The Knights scored the last nine points of the period and continued what would be a 15-0 run into the sccond quarter. Sacred Heart also ended the first half on another 9-0 run to take their biggest lead to that point of 31-9.
Sacred Heart led 49-17 after the three quarters and, with the fourth quarter clock continuously running, went on for a 37-point blowout win.
The Knights improve to 11-6 overalll and 7-2 in the NCAA league. Brooks Brown and Jake Windholz each scored 10 points for Sacred Heart. Dru Schmidtberger added nine points.
Sacred Heart is off this Friday and returns to action next Tuesday at home against Beloit.
