Post Office Ending Saturday Mail Delivery

The financially struggling U.S. Postal Service says it plans to stop delivering mail on Saturdays, but it will continue delivering packages six days a week.
In an announcement scheduled for later Wednesday, the government agency is expected to say the cut, beginning in August, would mean a cost saving of about $2 billion annually.
None
The move accentuates one of the agency's strong points. Package delivery has increased by 14% since 2010. The delivery of letters and other mail has declined with the increasing use of email and other Internet use.
Under the new plan, mail would still be delivered to post office boxes on Saturdays. Post offices now open on Saturdays would remain open on Saturdays.
Over the past several years, the Postal Service has advocated shifting to a five-day delivery schedule for mail and packages — and it repeatedly but unsuccessfully appealed to Congress to approve the move. Though an independent agency, the service gets no tax dollars for its day-to-day operations but is subject to congressional control.
It was not immediately clear how the service could eliminate Saturday mail without congressional approval.
But the agency clearly thinks it has a majority of the American public on its side regarding the change.
Material prepared for the Wednesday press conference by Patrick R. Donahoe, postmaster general and CEO, says Postal Service market research and other research has indicated that nearly 7 in 10 Americans support the switch to five-day delivery as a way for the Postal Service to reduce costs.

sounds good to me now if they could find a way to get rid of some of their dead wood workers that are lazy and just there for the perks and start trimming the pensions and other benefits that the normal workers don't get and maybe they'll survive

I rather they close the whole system down and get rid of everyone. Then revamp the system and start again with new people.

YEAH! LETS GET RID OF THOSE PESKY PENSIONS, HEALTH INSURANCE, UNIONS AND SIX DAY WORK WEEKS! We can replace them with U.S. postal kiosks in Walmart with workers from south of the border or with other strong foreign sounding dialect. They will all work for next to nothing. A farmer - hypercritical - conservative values nirvana. Like exempting owners of 191,000 partnerships, sole proprietorships and other businesses from income taxes in Kansas. What could go wrong?

Let's look at the salaries of the postmasters. Do you belive the Salina postmaster deserves to make that much money? The next time you are standing in line for 20 minutes because there are only 2 clerks working ask yourself this question. If Blake has no one else available to put out front why does he not roll up his sleeves and help out? Two possible reasons the first he may not know how to do the job and secondly its below him to do it.
