KWU Men Upset Sterling

Canon Fields scored 18 points in his second triple double of the season, Dylan Hidalgo poured in a career-high 18 and Kansas Wesleyan upset Sterling in the men's game 90-81.
The lead changed hands seven times in the first 5:13 of the game, but the Coyotes took the final lead change of the half on a three by Dylan Hidalgo to go up 14-12. Sterling would tie the game at 23 and 25, but the Coyotes close the half outscoring Sterling 18-8 to grab a 43-33 halftime lead.
In the second half, Sterling started on fire, scoring eight straight to open the half. Sterling would eventually tie and take the lead at 53-52 on a three by Darius Alexander.
The lead would change hands three more times before the Coyotes went in front for good on Brock Borovetz's bucket to go up 57-56.
Leading 63-62, the Coyotes went on a 19-2 run, capped by free throws from Borovetz to put the Coyotes up 82-64.
Sterling closed within 9 down the stretch, but could get no closer.
Fields tallied 18 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists for his second triple double against Sterling. Hidalgo added 18, Borovetz added 16, and Brinker 12.
KWU is 8-17 overall and 5-10 in the league. Sterling is 17-9 overall, 11-4 in the league.
KWU visits McPherson on Saturday.
Kansas Wesleyan stayed close but couldn't get key defensive stops late in a 61-57 loss in the women's game against Sterling at Mabee Arena.
It was difficult for both teams to get in a flow in the first half, as neither team could sustain momentum for very long. The Coyotes sprinted out to an 11-2 lead before Sterling would fight back for a 21-18 lead. The Warriors held KWU without a field goal for six minutes and 33 seconds at one point, mounting an 11-1 run.
Sterling would lead 25-21 before the Coyotes held Sterling without a field goal for the final 3:43 of the half. KWU would score 8 of the final 10 points of the half and take a 29-27 lead at the break.
In the second half, Sterling took the lead at 34-31 and would never trail again. KWU tied the game four times, but couldn't get a key stop to get a chance at the lead. The Coyotes tied the game at 36, 51, 53 and 57 with 1:14 to play. Sterling hit a three on the ensuing possession and held on down the stretch.
Vanessa Kresin had 13 points to lead the Coyotes while Stephanie Frost added 12 and McKenna Britton 11.
The Coyotes are 14-10 overall and 9-5 in the KCAC while Sterling is 12-13 and 8-7 in the league.
KWU travels to McPherson on Saturday.
