Friday Hoops Preview: Final Full Friday of the Season

Salina Central visits Campus tonight. The Mustangs are coming off a sweep of Salina South on Tuesday night, with the girls winning on Brooke Peters’ buzzer beating three, 31-29, and the boys using a 22-2 run to build a lead and pick up a 54-40 win. Both teams are 11-6.

The Mustang boys are tied for the top-seed in the sub-state with Hays, but have the head-to-head tiebreaker on the Indians. The Mustang girls are tied for the third seed with Valley Center and Great Bend. There are no head-to-head tiebreakers between any of the three teams.

The Campus girls are 5-12, and lost at Central 69-43 on January 4. The Campus boys are 2-15, and lost at Central 61-35.

Salina South travels to Maize tonight. The Cougars were swept by Salina Central on Tuesday. The Cougar girls are 13-4, ranked fifth in Class 5A in the latest Kansas Coaches Poll, and currently have the second seed in their sub-state, a game back of Newton. The Cougar boys are 6-11 and a game back of a tie for the third seed in the sub-state, but only a game up on a three-way tie for the sixth seed in the sub-state.

The Maize girls are 16-1 overall, 9-0 in AVCTL Division I and ranked second in Class 6A in the latest Kansas Coaches Poll. The Eagles defeated South 40-34 on January 3. The Maize boys are 6-11, but have won four of their last five and have a 61-48 win over South.

Sacred Heart wraps up a three-game home stand with the final home games of the regular season, entertaining Republic County.

The Knights were swept by Beloit on Tuesday, dropping the girls game 51-47 to fall to 6-11, and the boys game 58-48 to drop to 11-7.

Republic County’s girls are 14-4, and defeated Sacred Heart 53-13 on January 8 in Belleville. Republic County’s boys are 15-3, and defeated Sacred Heart 59-53. The Buffs are ranked second in Class 2A in the latest Kansas Coaches Poll.

Southeast of Saline travels to Russell to face the Broncos. The Trojans are coming off a split with Ellsworth. The girls lost 47-34 to the Bearcats to fall to 10-8, while the boys knocked off Ellsworth 71-60 to move to 10-8.

Russell’s girls are 13-5 and defeated Southeast 43-33 on January 8. The Broncos have lost two of their last three games. Russell’s boys are 1-17 and lost to Southeast 68-28.

Tip-off is at 6 o’clock.

Ell-Saline visits Ellinwood for a non-league match-up. The Cardinals were swept by Moundridge on Tuesday, with the girls falling 41-40 to drop to 13-4, while the boys lost 59-33 to move to 6-11.

Ellinwood’s girls are 11-7 and have lost two of their last three games, but won their last outing on Tuesday. Ellinwood’s boys are 5-13 and have lost five straight games.

Tip-off is at 6 o’clock.
