Southeast of Saline Splits with Russell

The Southeast of Saline girls fell short in their bid to knock off Russell last night, 48-45. Russell led 13-9 after one and 30-25 at halftime before the Trojans closed within one after three at 36-35. The Trojans trailed by three late in the game and had a chance to tie the game and send it to overtime, but turned the ball over on the possession. It was one of 18 Southeast turnovers in the game.

Erica Montgomery had 14 points and 13 rebounds, while Heather Cleveland returned from injury to score 11 points.

Southeast is 10-9 and 5-6 in the NCAA and closes the regular season at home Tuesday against Republic County.

The Southeast boys capped a sweep of the week with a 73-29 win over Russell on Friday night. The Trojans and Broncos were tied at 12 after one before Southeast led 28-21 at halftime. The third quarter is where Southeast did its damage, outscoring the Broncos 31-6 to blow open a 59-27 lead after three, and then held Russell to just two fourth quarter points.

Easton Montgomery had 21 points, Sam Koch added 15 points and 11 rebounds, and Ben Stutterheim had 13 points.

The Trojans are 11-8 and 6-5 in the NCAA and close the regular season with Republic County on Tuesday.
