VIDEO: Freezin' For a Reason
Todd Pittenger - Sat 01:54 PM 02/16/2013
A hearty group of people were “freezin’ for a reason” Saturday.
With the temperature at 28 degrees, and a thin layer of ice on portions of the Webster Conference Center Lake, they still took the plunge. As a crowd cheered, music played, and safety divers watched from the water, the plunge teams went into the lake, some off a dock, and others from the beach.
Many of the plungers were in costume. Costumes included Justice League super heroes, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Angry Birds, nerds, the one-eyed character Stuart from “Despicable Me”, and the Mayhem guys from a popular insurance commercial to name a few of the more colorful.
Awards were handed out for best costumes, along with team awards.
The largest team was from Canton Galva High School. Eighteen students made the trip to Salina to participate in the event. The team raising the most money was from Long McArthur Ford Lincoln.
Prior to the plunge, 55 people participated in a 5k trail run, road run, and 1 mile walk.
Luke Schulte from Kansas Special Olympics tells KSAL News that he was very pleased with the day’s events. Saturday afternoon he was still tabulating exactly how much money was raised.
Proceeds from the event go to Kansas Special Olympics.

Seems to me they could of counted the monies in an hour or so. What I would like to know is how much the parents of special Olympic people donate. Its a good cause don' t get me wrong but if we were to donate to every good cause we would have no money for our own.

How much of the money raised is actually spent on the olympic's? How much goes to the people running it either locally or on the national scale?
