The Kansas Water Office says it will begin releasing water Monday from Cedar Bluff Reservoir to help recharge Hays water wells.
The releases will recharge wells along the Smoky Hill River near Schoenchen.
The release will use virtually all of the 1,247 acre-feet of water left in an artificial recharge pool, or approximately 406 million gallons.
Unlike earlier, similar releases, the city of Russell isn't joining the request for water. That city instead will pursue other water supplies near its Pfeifer wellfield. Russell owns water in Cedar Bluff and could seek the release of up to 2,000 acre-feet of water.
