19 Saline County Wrestlers Open State Tournament

The 2013 Kansas State High School Activities Association State Wrestling Tournaments will open on Friday, with a delayed start at noon due to this week’s winter storm. We’ll follow 19 Saline County wrestlers plus other area wrestlers in action. We’ll have on-air updates twice per hour beginning at noon on SportsRadio 1150 KSAL and AM 1560 KABI. Sacred Heart (3-2-1A)

Junior Nick Wuthnow continues his pursuit of a perfect season this weekend. Wuthnow will wrestle at 170 pounds, and comes in with a 36-0 record. Wuthnow opens with Colton Wise of Plainville. Wise is 30-12 and is in his senior season.

Salina Central (5A)

Freshman De’Khyale McFarland is 21-13, and meets Mill Valley junior Kali Gracy, 6-6, at 113 pounds.

Sophomore Dayton Will is 30-11 at 138 pounds, and will face Bryson Nuckles, a 22-13 freshman from Arkansas City.

Regional champion and freshman Dalton Peters puts his 30-6 mark on the line against Kansas City Turner’s Vincent John, a 17-17 sophomore.

Regional champion Kade True will open his senior tournament with a 31-3 record. True will face Isiah Smith, a 14-4 senior from Kansas City Washington.

Senior Zak Will, 11-7, will meet Nathan Butler, a 40-0 senior from Leavenworth.

Salina South (5A)

At 106 pounds, junior Randall Bates brings an 18-18 record to state, and meets freshman Stephen Tujague, 34-7, from St. James Academy.

Regional champion and junior Tyler Irwin puts his 22-12 mark on the line against St. James freshman Tyler Hensley, 31-18, at 112 pounds.

Senior Josiah Endreshak is 18-13 and meets Jake Elbrader, a 24-7 junior from St. Thomas Aquinas.

At 170 pounds, senior Tyler McGaha is 16-9 and faces Kapaun Mt. Carmel junior Tom Hand, 35-14.

At 182 pounds, senior Tanner O’Donnell brings a 31-6 mark to state and meets Mill Valley senior Derrick Paxton, 24-17.

Senior Mike Shirk is 12-3 and will face Kansas City Harmon senior Daryl Williams, 20-2.

Sophomore Alex Parker brings a 21-15 record to state and will take on Shawnee Heights junior Tyson Toelkes, 26-2.

Southeast of Saline (3-2-1A)

Regional champion and junior Jim Weller will open at 120 pounds against Oskaloosa sophomore Mark Nickels, 16-14.

At 126 pounds, senior Zach Turner is 23-9 and meets Scott City senior Alex Kough, 26-4.

Senior Cory Knight is 16-8 and faces senior Cody Calhoon from Maur Hill, 29-3, at 132 pounds.

Junior Kreal Smith is 30-10 and will take on Cherryvale junior Reid Hugo, 31-12, at 152 pounds.

At 160 pounds, junior Keith Short, 31-8, meets Council Grove senior Zack Craige, 28-12.
