Knights Advance to Substate Chamionship

It took Sacred Heart 36 minutes of gametime to get the job done, but the Knights held off a late rally by top-seeded Marion to advance to Saturday's substate championship game at Hillsboro. After a 58-58 tie at the end of regulation, the Knights hit 11-of-12 free throws in overtime to go on for a 71-65 win.
Sacred Heart scored the opening basket, but as the first quarter went on, Marion was within a single point three times. The Knights took their biggest lead of the opening quarter at 15-8, but the Warriors scored the last four points to cut the deficit to 15-12.
The Knights opened the second quarter on a 7-0 run to take their first double-digit lead. They would lead by ten points three different times before halftime. The teams traded baskets for much of the period and the Sacred Heart lead was 26-18 after the first sixteen minutes.
Sacred Heart took a 12-point lead early in the third quarter. Marion chipped away and had the lead down to seven points, but the Knights scored the last four points to take a 42-31 into the final quarter. The Warriors hit five three-pointers in the fourth quarter, including one in the final five seconds of regulation that sent the game into overtime. Marion outscored Sacred Heart 27-16 in the fourth quarter. In overtime, the Knights missed just one free throw in twelve attempts to pull away and hold on for a six-point win.
Sacred Heart improves its record to 14-8. Marion ends its season at 16-6. The Knights were led in scoring by Tony Chavez with 20 points and Brooks Brown with 13 points. Jordon Hett led Marion and all scorers with 27 points. Sacred Heart will play for the substate championhip at Hillsboro at 7:30 Saturday night. The game can be heard on Classic Hits 104.9.
