Police Believe Drive-By BB Shooting, Vandalism Connected

Jeff Garretson - Tue 11:10 AM 03/05/2013

Police are investigating after BB's are fired at two teens walking on Santa Fe.

Salina Police are asking for help in locating a Jeep Grand Cherokee that is described as brown or gray, with a black roof rack.

A witness told officers that the Jeep was southbound in the 1300 block of Santa Fe Monday morning at 10am - when two male passengers fired BB's from black handguns.

The teens were not hit and there was no damage to property near the former House of Sight and Sound.

The witness described the driver and two passengers as white males in their late teens or early twenties.

Police do believe the incident could be connected to a string of car windows that have been shattered by BB's over the weekend into Monday.

According to Deputy Police Chief Carson Mansfield, three more vehicles had windows shot out between Sunday and Monday.

Two Ford Focuses had auto glass shot out in the 500 block of Sunset - causing over $1,000 of damage, while the owner of a 2004 Pontiac Grand AM reported windows shot out and an estimated $700 in damage done in the 700 block of Osage.

Over the weekend, 3 vehicles parked in the 800 block of Hancock, 800 block of S. Ohio and 100 block of S. College were all sprayed by BB's.

Here is food for thought. What is going to happen to these little punks one of these days when they attempt to drive by and shoot a citizen that is packing a little heat legally, he or she feels threatened for his or her life and they return fire, smacking one these little crapheads right between the eyes? These little pukes could be on borrowed time.

Hmm how many jeeps have a black roof rack? Probably 98% of them. Once caught these kids will get a pat on the butt and be led to the door. Remember they implemented this just recently and it must be working real well with all the vandalism reports coming in.

I know that if somebody points a gun at me, and you can't tell if its a BB or not, I'm not wasting time to ask, I'm pulling and firing my CCW.

Just maybe when bodies start piling up the police will do their job and stop writing seatbelt violations. But in another story two teens were charged with arson and some other things and were let go to their parents. As long as they are easy on these offenders it will never stop.
