The Martinez's mobile home on Otto Street was destroyed Wednesday by a fire that was started by a faulty electrical outlet. The family escaped without injury, but lost nearly everything.
Catholic Charities and Sacred Heart Cathedral has set them up in temporary housing but the family is responsible for the cost to clean up and remove the remains of their mobile home. The estimated cost for this service is $1,500.
Monetary donations can be dropped off or mailed to Catholic Charities of Northern Kansas 425 W. Iron/ PO Box 1366 Salina Kansas 67402. Checks should be made payable to Catholic Charities in care of the Blanca Martinez Family. Any additional funds collected will be used to help them find permanent housing.

I am all for helping people down and out. But when someone knows they have a series problem that could cause this type of tragedy and do nothing to avert it is another story. Seems to many people feel others will bail them out if something happens and in this case thank god no one lost their lives.

Why do you feel the need to express your ignorant thoughts on every story?

Obviously you didn't read the story. It was caused by a faulty outlet, not a faulty outlet that she ignored. Hope that you never have something like this never happen to you and you need the generosity of others. Think before you post.

First off kdub97 you need to learn to read. It was stated prior to the investigation by her that she had a outlet giving her problems in her bedroom. I guess you evidently were thinking of how to be a horse's butt.

I read that also in the paper that she said there was a problem. At the time I throught a new outlet costs less than a dollar and surely she could have found someone to install it as there are lots of handymen advertising that are not as expensive as an electrician. Plus anyone that owns a house, trailer or anything else and does not insure it is just plain stupid.

Kdub97 first of all if there is a electrical problem in my house I either fix it if I can or I get a electrician to do it. Secondly my house is insured. One never knows when something will occur and destroy one's home whether it be a fire or tornado. People who do not take care of what they own are the ones who suffer when something like this happens. I like others do not for one minute mind helping responsible people out but those that are not responsible and put others lives in danger just do not need my help.

@Iamgonnagetyou: I'm betting that of the 15 brain cells in your head, 10 are for maintaining your bodily functions and 5 are for intellectual purposes. Also, thank you for telling us you own KSAL radio. Fabulous advertising my mentally challenged friend.
