In Kansas, the drones would be tested primarily in airspace near Salina.

Kansas State University is part of a team of three universities and multiple businesses vying to be picked by the Federal Aviation Administration as one of six test site for drones.

Kurt Barnhart of Kansas State says the team includes members outside Kansas and that they envision the test site including multiple locations. In Kansas, the drones would be tested primarily in airspace near Salina.

Barnhart declined to provide other details, including the names of its university and business partners, saying providing too much information could put the team at a competitive disadvantage.

The FAA made a request for proposals last month. The agency is required to develop sites where civilian and military drones can be tested in preparation for integration into U.S. airspace that's currently limited to manned aircraft.

Domestic drone usage is ill-conceived, elitist, and end-runs our inherent Constitutional protections. Here are two (2), very well-produced, videos that anchor my points: Emmy Award-winning newscaster Shad Olson’s ‘The Great Drone Debate’, featuring US Senator John Thune: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ssoOASanKao Here’s a mind-blowing, well-done animated short that really captures our collective angst that if the road to hell is paved with good intentions, then domestic drones are a superhighway to an Orwellian panoptic gulag. http://vimeo.com/59689349

@SetYouStraight...or "SYS" for short. You are setting no one straight. You really believe that keeping "your nose clean" keeps the government at bay? Please take some class about Critical Thinking or, at the very least, Rhetoric and learn to differentiate between the two of them.

Setyou seriously grow a brain , these drones will be a way for the feds to spy on things no good will become of it and will probably lead to midair plane crashes in the future I think they should be only used for military purposes if theres a need for air surveilance such as finding things or people on the ground then use helicopters like they always do

Aurora.

Exactly farmdude just another way to take away our privacy rights. I for one will agree with others who have said these will make great target practice. If one invades my air space it will be shot down no ifs ans or buts.

How about we start a local "drone-resistance" test site adjacent to K-State where we can practice anti-aircraft marksmanship and develop new defense tactics against them?

The best that could ever happen to Salina, KS is if it would rain 6" of black powder and have lightning strike. Maybe we can hope a drone can come close.
