Kansas House Panel Fails to Revive Immigration Bill
Associated Press - Sat 08:40 AM 03/19/2011
A Kansas House committee failed Friday to move the measure at the last meeting the panel was scheduled to have this year.
An Arizona-style bill that would require police to check the immigration status of people they suspect of being in the country illegally seems to be on life support in the state Legislature.
A Kansas House committee failed Friday to move the measure at the last meeting the panel was scheduled to have t his year.
Chairman Lance Kinzer had hoped the House Judiciary Committee would reconsider an earlier decision to table the bill
indefinitely. The Olathe Republican is pushing the measure.
Kinzer's policing proposal is similar to an Arizona law enacted last year. The bill also would require state agencies and
contractors to check the status of their employees with the federal E-Verify program.
The measure has drawn strong opposition from business groups and immigrant rights advocates.

I would sure like to know what "business groups" opposed this legislation. Are unions considered business groups? If we are not going to enforce "legal" immigration, how are we going to justify enforcing other laws? Who will decide what laws we are going to enforce and not going to enforce, Obama? God help us! If, when you come to this country illegally you are above the law, what happens when an illegal decide he/she wants something you have, can they just take it? Remember, you have already told them that they are above the law, so why shouldn't they?

The Selling of America by soft hearted liberals, who are greedy. Greed , is killing this country while Americans sit back and look, we have illegals protesting in the streets, the American tax payer who is being shut out from jobs is paying 88 billion a year to host criminals, we are scared, to enforce our laws. The demise of a country starts with its laws, illegal is illegal, history will show this is the turning point in America's demise, its inablity to control immigration and boarders.

Immigration today is not a turning point in America's demise. The same words were used to describe the situation in years past when european immigrants came here in droves. By the way, soft hearted liberals don't represent business groups, seeing as they love taxing. So, why the opposition from that group? Well because they love cheap labor. Why aren't you banging the drum for companies hiring illegals to suffer some consequences? You'd rather blame someone trying to make a better life for themself than those hiring illegals to increase profits.

ILLEGAL-adj.-1)forbidden by law;unlawful;illicit.2)unauthorized or prohibited by a code of official or accepted rules. ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT-n.-An alien(non-citizen)who has entered the United States without government permission or stayed beyond the termination date of a Visa. Now, what part of ILLEGAL do people not understand?? I'm getting sick and tired of this old argument. If they are illegal/undocumented, they DO NOT belong here PERIOD!!

Brittanicus, how do you propose we stop illegal immigration? I'm interested in what you think would be a proper solution. Also, it should be stated that a law with very similar wording to this has been ruled unconstitutional due to race playing a part in police decisions.

Granny, No one is saying they want immigrants here. Don't twist words to suit your agenda. The point being made, is a law such as this is unconstitutional and blaming immigrants without levelling any criticism toward businesses that hire them is disingenuous at best. It's similar to blaming Mexico for some drug problems here. If Americans didn't consume so many drugs they wouldn't be sending them here.

I heartily agrees with b_rad_shizzle!...Also, long time ago, I thought green card/visa is like $30. But when I researched on that, I was shocked to find that it actually is $3,000 to $10,000, depending on what type of card they are getting. No wonder why there are so many illegal immigrants in America.

b_rad_shizzle-First, I am not saying I do not want immigrants here, I am saying I DO NOT want ILLEGAL immigrants here, they are putting a financial burden on the U.S. The businesses that get caught hiring these illegal persons should be federally prosecuted, NO EXCEPTIONS!! This goes for the many Government officials that hire these people for their own greedy reasons, CHEAP LABOR, this cheap labor is costing our country BILLIONS each year. I especially resent the fact the LEGAL citizens of our country (Disabled Vets;Sr.citizens etc..)are having their programs cut due in part to the financial strain these people are putting on our economy. The ones with "Strong Opposition" are the ones that are the biggest problems of this situation!!

Well Granny fortunately we'd adhere to the constitution in this country and the supremacy clause clearly states federal law takes priority over state law if they conflict. Also immigration, illegal and legal, is a federal responsibility. All of these factors add up to this bill being unconstitutional. Decreased spending for social program isn't the fault of illegal immigrants. It's due to a down economy, lower tax revenues, a constantly increasing population, and budget cuts from the federal level down to the state to get out of the red.

Well b-rad-shizzle you evidently have your head in the sand. Illegal is illegal and these people need to be run out of our country. They have over taken Texas and Arizona how many more states should they take over? I say round them up and send them back. If they are caught back here then they face the death penalty. Once a few die you will see that they will not want to re-enter after being sent back the first time.

equineman, get your head out of your arse. Illegal immigrants should not be punished with death and anyone who suggests such actions as acceptable should be run out of this country. To assume that punishment fits the crime is absurd and borderline insane. We may disagree on illegal immigration but state's do not have the right to exceed the powers enumerated to the federal government within the constitution. If only you with your infinite wisdom and judgement could re-write it. Then we'd have a wonderful illegal immigrant free society after battling it for centuries

@ Aurora: just because someone holds a different world view doesn't automatically mean they are ideologues or distorted. @ Shiz: If, by your own posting, a growing population in this country is part of the problem, how can you even begin to make an argument in favor of illegal immigration? That's just not logical. But then, most liberal viewpoints defy logic and instead rely upon emotion, half truths, and personal agenda for advancement.

Soon, I fear, our national debt will be so great that people coming here illegally from third world countries looking for better financial opportunities will be a moot point. So will be coming here for personal or religious freedom; the TSA and justice department are working overtime on that.

If we (traditional, conservative, patriotic folks) don't act soon all hope will truly be lost. Vote in every election, write letters to your elected officials, support good candidates, make your viewpoint known on these blogs. Our country is in grave danger, and a vocal liberal minority is gaining ground.

risingr, by my posts you should know it's not constitutional. I didn't argue in favor of immigrants although I have differing feelings about how we should solve the problem. If it's so black and white, please inform us of your, or the best, plan to solve this. Because state laws that can't stand up to judicial scrutiny won't cut it.

Evidently using vulgar language makes you feel like a big man but we all no you are not. If you look at countries that handle things seriously like China for instance you do not see illegal immigration problems or terrorism problems. The people thinking of entering illegally to China know the consequences and China does not have a problem and we would not either if we took strong measures.

HAHA. My head's in the sand but your's isn't up your arse? When you claim illegal immigrants should be killed when caught re-entering america, it clearly shows you don't have any ideas on how to fix the problem. And only a sociopath would think that kind of action would be justified for a crime such as that. I wouldn't use a socialist country as an example. How many of them have followed the will of their people? You don't know if the citizens support it or approve of it, which is the major hurdle in this country. You just know they have a policy you agree with. I know there is no easy answer to illegal immigration. If it was so easy it would be done by now. I get that. But I have yet to hear of a responsible way to handle this situation.

So if federal law trumps state law, how come we have to contend with vehicles that meet stricter California pollution standards? The Arizona immigration law is actually very similar to the federal law. Only difference is Arizona was planning on enforcing theirs, something which the feds have NOT done.

I never said I had a solution. I was just clarifying that laws like the one mentioned in the article will solve nothing. Not because they're ineffective but because they will be ruled unconstitutional. Those proposing it know that and they're just playing politics.
