Assaria Man Killed in Crash

Troopers say that a car crossed the center line and hit the motorcycle.
An Assaria man is killed in a Friday night crash involving a motorcycle.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, 45-year-old Bradley Gearheart was riding a motorcycle east on U.S. 81 Highway. He was struck by a car that that was headed west and crossed the center line.
Gearheart was killed in the crash. Troopers say he was not wearing a helmet.
The driver of the car, 29-year-old Shawn Farley, was injured. He was transported to the hospital in Salina. A 7-year-old child in the car was not hurt. Troopers say that both Farley and the child were buckled up.
The crash happened just after 9:00 Friday night 12 miles South of Salina on U.S 81 Highway.

Somebody ought to tell the highway patrol you cannot drive east on 81. Only runs north and south.

Down by bridgeport the road curves to the west, which makes it a eat-west road, thats where the wreck was. Condolences to the family of Brad.

Looks like the turnip truck also had an accident and dropped off some turnips here. First we have gay in salina. To educate you 81 hwy never becomes and east west road. I suggest you take a compass with you next time you drive it. Ksomething the only turd on here is you and you need to be flushed. Smokeyvalley you need to get off your drugs that may clear up your mind. Then we have salina south hopefully when your time comes you will be doing something you like. Anyone that is a true bike rider knows the risks involved but they love what they are doing so more power to them. If you were half the man he was it would be a miracle.

Technically at no point on Old 81 in Saline or McPherson Counties does it ever run east-west, however it does run a northeast-south west direction at several locations. Also, I do not see anywhere in this article where the KHP designates "East US 81". They are simply referring to an approximate direction of travel. I am saddened that people have find it necessary to criticize each other and pick apart this article when there is a death involved.Whatever happened to respect for the victims family? My condolences to the family.

I saw this accident Friday on my was to Linsdborg. It happened just after Old 81 crosses under the interstate, which makes it an east-west road(it becomes a north-south road again after it curves to go into Lindsborg). And people - don't worry about getu - that person thrives on the pain of others and only comments on the stories that either: 1- have the cops messing up at their job or 2 - someone has been hurt/killed. They thrive on the pain of others, so just ignore the comments. Nothing ever makes sense coming out of the mouth of one so vial and discontent with themselves!!

No apology offered. As others point out on this thread, a person died and it is not the place to try to jab someone with an insignificant aspect that is usually very negative. aschosh who the hell are you to say what any particular person thrives on? I been on here long before Imagonna and your points are all wrong that you try to make. I know he is tough on law enforcement but if you lived here all your life like I have you would see how ineffective law enforcement is in this town and it does come from its leadership. His comments on people being killed is only on criminals for what I have seen. I also agree with that as criminals get no smpathty from me. Whe don't you meet up with this guy and talk face to face if you feel you are so perfect. You will not do that because you are a coward just wanting to ruffle someone's feathers. But for you to post this on here makes you as guilty as the point your trying to make.

The point is this: if you were the family Mr. Gerhart, what would you think about people who use tradegy to make snarky little comments about the direction of a road or pick apart information in news stories? Not even a recognition of the terrible thing that happened, just a quick snarky and sophmoric comment - on this story and others. When a criminal is caught and when law enforcement screws up, accountability is appropriate. However, several people on this website, including iamgonnagetu focus their talent on the wrong thing: pointing out the mistakes of others. We should be better than that as people. The negative approach doesn't really help anyone...

Logical I also believe you are wrong on all the points you make. If imagonna wants to express himself in this case to correct an error in the story he should still be able. The last I was aware we still have freedom of speech in american. Evidently you do not believe in freedom of speech. Even the bullies that tried to nail him, even through they were wrong in doing it with this story still have the same freedom. If you cannot put up with what people say and since you evidently do not believe in freedom of speech only evidently for yourself then stay off of here or just ignor the comments.

I am saddened by all of this, though many comments are valid and do have a great point of interest...the man that died was the father of three children with a 6 month old grandson who he will never see grow up now....though this is a time of sorrow i have been checking this site often for any mention of any further findings on the man who killed him...i have only heard romors at this point...my heart is with those he left behind...

getalife: yes, iamgonnagetu has every right to be jaded, negative, sophmoric and snarky in his comments. Everyone else has the right to let him know we are tired of this approach. Reading the comments posted here and on other stories where he posts, it is obvious that people are tired of him. An appropriate comment would have been something like: "What a terible thing. He was too young to die and now there is a family that will grow up with their dad. I'm guessing the driver of the car involved feels terrible too. What a shame. By the way, at what point does highway 81 go east/west? I thought it only runs north/south?" This approach does not comes across as negative, glib, juvenile and it respects the fact that a person is now dead. As for the final post from getalife, this is a dreadful rationalization: we can trivialize, with negative, jaded comments, someone's death just because the family of the dead person won't be reading the comments?

Does Bradley Gearheart have children at SES? The name is familiar. A Mr. Gearheart is the counselor there but I can't picture him on a bike and I don't think his first name is Brad. Very sad. Riding in town is actually safer these days because of so many scooters ripping around; People are now able to register a motorcycle as a vehicle when they come into view.
