Kansas has launched a new system for reserving cabins and camp sites as state parks, fishing lakes and wildlife areas.

The state Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism says its online reservation service Kansas Outdoors makes it easier to find available cabins and camp sites.

The agency temporarily stopped taking reservations online or by phone at the start of the month so that its new system could get up and running. A San Diego-based company, Active Network, is working with the Kansas agency to provide the system.

Wildlife and Parks officials say only about half of all camp sites and cabins will be available for online reservations. The rest will be set aside for visitors to claim on the spot.

What a joke this is!! Try to reserve. They are already taken the first day. I camp alot at Milford and the Corp has destroyed family fun and camping. In the Rolling Hills area they wasted pavement on four campsites (area C) while they closed down the majority of area B (Free campsite) which was already improved and could have provided a better bang for your paving buck (FEDERAL STIMULUS DOLLARS). It is all about the 18 dollar camping fee and control. Area B is now a day use only and my buddies that are handicapped can't even fish down there unless they have a scooter that can go a mile. The CORP of ENGINEERS SHAME ON YOU!!! I would fire the entire lot of you for your stupidity.

@mick, Just to help you out a little....this story is about KDWP and has absolutely nothing to do with the Corp of Engineers.

Understood, it is a little off but still try and reserve a spot. Because of KDWP/CORPS of Engineers closing down camp sites it is harder to get a spot. Following me? If they had not closed down 50 spots the competition would be less for the pay sites.....
