The new armored vehicles roll into Fort Riley.

A brigade of the Army's 1st Infantry Division is breaking in new vehicles at Fort Riley.

Nearly 200 Abrams tanks and Bradley Fighting Vehicles have arrived at the northeast Kansas post over the past month and issued to units of the 2nd Heavy Brigade Combat Team. The 1st Infantry Division says the vehicles have updated technology that improves the ability of soldiers to be aware of their surroundings.

Lt. Col. Michael Henderson said the tank can hit targets at distances of more than 4,000 meters, allowing the crew to strike an enemy without being exposed to return fire.

Additional vehicles will arrive later this year for other Fort Riley units.

plisken, easy to spout and cry as long as your not, one of the soldiers manning these fine peace making machines.Other countries are not dettered by our education system nor our smart, brave highly educated youth of America today. They do however, understand brute force and fire power.Without the protection of our nation and its allies we would have no education system. So find somewhere to donate your time and money too and help the youth of America today. Set the example and get involved. One man can make a difference and I beleive you could be the one.

Hello Armyretired! I respect your opinion, but disagree, oh well, such is life. Fighting for democracy and freedom has been a lame excuse for years as reasons for going to war. You say protection. Protection against what? Fear? We have over 100 bases in the world and we need more equipment to run the war machine. Now, with respect to the working with children, I won't go into the resume, but I am very much so involved with the youth, as a social worker. I am setting the example, I'm looking at the man in the mirror! Have a nice day!

plisken, well said and thank you for all you do with the youth of Salina. I will fight for freedom and democracy any day and if you think that lame excuse wont stop our enemies from taking what little is left after the goverment get's its share than your world is magicall and you should be proud to live in it.It is not the need for more equipment but modern technology and updated equipment in which our soldiers can ride off into battle in their shiny armor and trusty steeds and return to their loving and caring families unscathed by the evil hordes outside our walls.Fear wont stop an enemies advance nearly as effectively as an Abrams.

All of you cannot give me one good reason why we have lost the lives of people in Iraq and now Afganistan. The military people saw how Russia had to pull out of Afganistan years ago when they were a super power so what made anyone think we could do any better over there. While we are wasting our energy there we are being invaded by Mexico. Let's get our troops down by our borders to protect us from this invasion and clean up the millions now in our country. This is the real concern for us at home here in the USA.

@ Armyretired, how can troops fight for our freedom and protect us since there have been no invasions and no attempted invasions from any enemy countries since WWII? America became an aggressor nation since the beginning of Cold War and attacked the countries simply because they have different ideologies and America replaced other countries' democratically elected leaders with dictators simply because their democratically elected leaders are not in America's interests.

Aurora,We have not been attacked since WW11? 2011 ring a bell? We fought the chinese in Korea, are they not a threat?Libya,Grenada,Panama.Surely the Saudis needed a hand to help them rid those whom had occupied their friendly country.Somalia was just Americans trying to lend a helpfull hand which turned bad due to the greedy.Afganistan defeated the Russians with our advisors and the technology we gave them( AT4)I would much rather be an aggressor now than fight them on our home ground.New equipment is essential to surviving.Soldiers dont make up foreign diplomacy the people you vote for do,they just want the best chance to survive they can get.

@ Armyretired, did any countries invade America since WWII? I don't think so. Libya, Grenada, Panama, Iraq, etc. attacked the American troops because they are in their country, they viewed American troops as invaders and occupiers. What about Argentina? America replaced Argentina's democratically elected president with military dictator who are very cruel. That's why so many countries hate America for what America did in the past and present.

@ Armyretired, don't get me wrong, I'm not all the way anti-war. I believe few wars are partially or fully justified. WWII and Desert Storm, I believe it is justified. Korea war and Afghanistan war, I think it is partially justified but still think most of it is not justified. I think that most wars in America's history is not justified. I know that our leaders are the one who put the troops in danger. I don't blame the troops...I absolutely hates it when the government views the troops as expendable.

To Army and all the brave men and women serving or that have served I thank you for your service! Don't try to get down to their level and fight for the ill informed will bring you to their level and trample you. Ask the soldiers that serve why they are oversees. These troops home and abroad, including law enforcement, know the evils that are trying daily to bring this county down. To this they do their best, not asking for a simple thank you, knowing that their families will live another day in the free USA. Besides I don't want this crap in my backyard and these brave men and woman are working to see it does not get there.
