Escaped Double Murderer Hitched Ride to Russell
Associated Press - Fri 09:02 AM 04/20/2012
The police chief in the western Kansas town of Russell says a convicted murderer hitched a ride to a convenience store in the town, where he was arrested after escaping from a county jail.
Police Chief Jon Quinday told The Associated Press on Friday that escaped inmate Santos Carrera-Morales was taken into custody late Thursday by two police officers without incident at a store off of Interstate 70.
Quinday said Carrera-Morales was north of Russell along Kansas 18 when he got his ride.
Carrera-Morales is one of four prison inmates who escaped Wednesday morning from the Ottawa County Jail in Minneapolis. The inmates were being held there because of overcrowding at the state prison in Ellsworth.
Two of the escaped inmates were apprehended Wednesday. One remains at large.

Heart attack or not, who in the world this day in age would pick up a hitch hiker? Plus Russell didn't know this news about the escapees and who knows where they might be? Open your eyes people!

White T-shirts are prison issue and gray sweats can be bought from the prison, Since these are KDOC inmates they are allowed their property while being housed. At least 2 of the 4 never should have been housed outside of the prison.

@mydogtango.. Don't assume we don't know stuff out here in Russell. Of course we knew about the escapees. It was on the news for 2 days. We do have television and internet out here, ya know. Stop assuming we're hermits.

Why would you assume that people in Russell didn't know about this? It was all over every news channel and website since it happened. If someone was traveling, they might not have heard the news and truckers are more willing to pick up hitch hikers than anyone else.

Maybe it was the hollywood sheriff who gave him a ride. Probably can't see much with those fancy dark glasses on all the time.
